Nice movie. Thinking of the fact, there was nu computer to make any effect.
There are soms mistakes about the harmonica and the wings of the windmills (and a polder-mill, doesn't make flour), but stil it is nice - by the way typical American - movie.

Bart (typical Dutch)

Typical American? The maker was Hungarian and flew from the Nazi´s in Berlin to Holland and then to NYC.

a film fan

I saw this movie as a child and I have never forgotten it. I was so happy to find it again and be able to watch it. It is just as powerful now as it was then. I think it is a must see, not just as an example of fine animation but as an example of the power of film to express hope.

I too saw this movie when I was younger - the "Screwballs" scared the snot out of me. I've looked for this off and on for some time and watching it I agree with the previous poster in that it was just as powerful as it was then. In 1942 the war was about to change course, but it was a dark, fearful time. The hope in this movie is almost palpable.

Hal Pray

Very powerful. The music and sound effects gripped me.

Georg Pal had nice animation. The message of this movie is strong especially in Europe in 1942.
