THE FIRST WAR FILM EVER! THEY WERE ACTING, IT WAS NOT A DOCUMENTARY!
GROUND BREAKING FILM, FOR ALL THE LOVERS OF HISTORY!

"The pictures of war and its incidents were almost too realistic, especially when we remember that such scenes are taking place almost daily. A headline in the newspaper announcing the bombardment of some city is infinitely more tragic and appeals more to the feelings when the reader remembers some such scenes as that put on the screen last night. One of the most striking and effective pictures, and one that called forth an expression of universal approbation from the audience, was that showing the effect of a shell during the Graeco-Turkish war. The scene was a cottage room filled with soldiers. The furniture was all awre [sic], and it was easy to guess that some horrible carnage had been committed. Suddenly the shell burst in the midst of the soldiers, bringing death and destruction. In a moment a Sister of Mercy in nurse's uniform entered the room, and at this point the audience burst into enthusiastic appreciation." - Dundee Courier and Argus (Scotland), September 11, 1897
